The Theoretical Statistics and Mathematics Division (TSMD) of the Institute traces its roots to the erstwhile Research and Training School (RTS), and was formally established in 1975.

Subsequently, when centres of ISI were established in Delhi and Bangalore, two more units were added in each of these locations. The three units in Kolkata, Delhi, and Bangalore currently constitute the Division.

The Division is looking for applications for faculty positions (Assistant Professor and above) from bright and motivated candidates in the areas of Statistics  and Mathematics, including Probability Theory. Candidates must have an established record of high quality research, a strong commitment to teaching, good academic performance throughout, and a PhD in a relevant subject from reputed universities / institutes.
